COVERAGE FOR SPOUSES AND DOMESTIC PARTNERS
Picture it - you turn 65 and are excited to sign up for WEA-MedPlus, but then it hits you... what about coverage for your better half? No need to worry. WEA-MedPlus has you both covered!
WEA-MedPlus offers coverage to you and your spouse or domestic partner just as long as our eligibility criteria is met. Even if your spouse/domestic partner turns 65 before you do, they can come onto WEA-MedPlus via an individual plan. Then, when you become eligible at 65, you can enroll on your own individual plan, or we can add you both to a family policy together.
When to apply for coverage:
The six-month period following the effective date of your Medicare Part B coverage; or
Anytime - if there was continuous coverage by a comprehensive health insurance plan during the six-months immediately preceding your application for coverage
To be eligible for coverage, all of the following criteria need to be met (for both you and your spouse/domestic partner):
Retired from all full-time employment
Enrolled in Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B
Not enrolled in a Medicare Advantage (Part C) plan
Not working independently as a contractor, consultant, or part-time for an employer covered under a WEA Trust group plan
We also need to make sure you or your spouse/domestic partner meet at least one of the following criteria:
Was a WEA Trust subscriber, an employee of any Wisconsin unit of government, a WEAC Retired class or a WEAC member at some point during the past 10 years
Was an employee of a Wisconsin unit of government for a cumulative period of at least 10 year (the 10 years do not need to have been consecutive)
Once you have met our eligibility criteria, you or your spouse/domestic partner may apply for WEA-MedPlus coverage at any time! No underwriting, no health evaluations or physicals, no waiting periods and no hassles!
