If possible, obtain a copy of the spouse’s or dependent’s Medicare card and send it to our office. We will review the employee’s record to determine if a change to a Medicare premium rate classification is appropriate.
Under federal law, the group health plan is the primary payor of benefits for a disabled spouse or child of an active employee covered by the group plan of a school district with 100 or more employees. Medicare is the primary payor of benefits (and the group plan is secondary) for the disabled spouse or child of an active employee covered by a group health plan in a school district with fewer than 100 employees.
