Cost Sharing and COVID-19 Testing

We encourage members to receive a COVID-19 test at any mass testing site, select pharmacies offering testing, doctor's office, or other testing locations. We are committed to providing all members the support and coverage they need relating to the diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19. WEA Trust will waive cost sharing, including co-pays, coinsurance and deductibles, for the COVID-19 test. In addition, will not require pre-authorization for the COVID-19 test. If you are unsure if you need a COVID-19 test, try using a Virtual Visit first to receive an opinion from a provider.

Employee Trust Fund members will have any claims covered under their Pharmacy benefit. Information on how to file those claims can be found here.

As of January 15, 2022, members covered under eligible plans may receive coverage for up to 8 FDA-approved over-the-counter COVID-19 antigen tests per member every 30 days. If you are unable to obtain your test without upfront costs at a network pharmacy, claims for reimbursement may be submitted utilizing the Over-the-Counter COVID-19 Test claim form.

Members with Medicare coverage are not eligible for this reimbursement.

Virtual Visits

Please note, virtual visits with any provider require audio and visual components to be covered. If you need to see a healthcare provider, we encourage you to use your Virtual Visit benefit to see a doctor on your smartphone, tablet or computer.

As of March 19th, 2020, all Medical/Urgent Care virtual visit costs on Maddy Virtual Care and Amwell will be waived for high deductible health plan members, even if you have not yet met your deductible.

This means that having a Medical/Urgent Care Virtual Visit will be $0 for all WEA Trust members, including those on our State Health plans and WEA-MedPlus plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I go for the vaccine and where can I sign up?
Local department of health mass vaccination sites and pharmacies are the preferred choice to receive your COVID-19 vaccine. When you are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine, follow your employer’s vaccine site recommendation, visit the DHS vaccine scheduling website (, or go to to see the number of vaccines available at a nearby pharmacy

Will we be notified when a vaccine is available?
We encourage members to contact their doctor as many health systems have vaccine “waitlists” that ensure your doctor will contact you to receive the vaccine once you are eligible. You can also check eligibility on the DHS website.

Will a COVID-19 test be covered to leave or enter the state/country when traveling?
The COVID-19 test is not covered solely for travel purposes.

Will a COVID-19 test be covered if it is required by a school or employer?
We will not be covering tests that are requested by a third party. The law does not require coverage for any purpose not primarily intended for individualized diagnosis or treatment of COVID-19.
